2016 Projects

In order to achieve our goals for 2020, CORE has identified 17 key project areas for 2016.  They are listed below.  Please contact the project leaders if you are interested in supporting any or all of these goals.

CORE Development Team
2020 Goal – Increase the number of active rugby players in the region to 1,500.

2016 Project A: Crows Mini-Rugby
Leader: George Curran (geocurran@hotmail.com)
Key Goal: At least 150 4 - 8 year old mini-rugby players in the spring mini program.

2016 Project B: Grade 4/5/6 Mixed Elementary Touch Rugby League
Leader: Ken Boe (250-762-2915, kosboe@hotmail.com)
Key Goal: At least 250 players on 12 local elementary teams (mixed).

2016 Project C : Community Youth Touch Sevens League
Leader: Ken Boe and Derek Worrall (250-762-2915, kosboe@hotmail.com)
Key Goal: At least 100 players on 8 teams.

2016 Project D: Rugby Sevens Leagues - Junior/Senior
Leader: Doug Manning (250-869-0575, 4dougmanning@gmail.com)
Key Goal: At least 100 players on 8 local teams in this spring sevens league.

2016 Project E: Adult Touch Rugby League
Leader: Doug Manning (250-869-0575, 4dougmanning@gmail.com)
Key Goal: At least 120 players on 8 teams in this summer league.

2016 Project F: Crows U19 or U20 Program
Leader: Doug Manning (250-869-0575, 4dougmanning@gmail.com)
Key Goal: A Crows U19 or U20 team operates in the Fall of 2016.

 

CORE Excellence Team
2020 Goal – Increase the number of rep-level rugby athletes in the region to 15.

2016 Project G: Central Okanagan Rugby Development (CORD) Program

Leader: Leana Marton (250-878-2910, leanamarton@hotmail.com)
Key Goal: At least 30 players participating in the U14 CORD Program.

2016 Project H: PRC Coordination
Leader: Doug Manning (250-869-0575, 4dougmanning@gmail.com)
Key Goal: Three PRC Leaders coordinate the U14, U16, and U18 Thompson-Okanagan PRC programs.
Key Goal: A volunteer coordinator is identified to lead the 2016 PRC recruitment process.

 

CORE Sustainability Team
2020 Goal – A diversified rugby financing infrastructure meets local rugby needs.
2020 Goal - $100,000 in the CORE Endowment Fund.

2016 Project I: Expanded Individual Memberships

Key Goal: At least 110 individual memberships.
Key Goal: 95%+ rate of membership renewals.

2016 Project J: Expanded Business Memberships
Leader: Doug Manning (250-869-0575, 4dougmanning@gmail.com)
Key Goal: At least 20 local businesses become CORE business members.

2016 Project K: Corporate Sponsorships
Leader: Doug Manning (250-869-0575, 4dougmanning@gmail.com) 
Key Goal:
Three sponsors for the 'Community Youth Touch Sevens' program.

 

CORE Community Team
2020 Goal – More than 200 active Central Okanagan Rugby Enthusiast members.

2016 Project L: Player/Enthusiast Registration Database
Leader: TBD
Key Goal: An up-to-date database of all active players in the Central Okanagan is in place.
Key Goal: An up-to-date database of the CORE membership is in place.

2016 Project M: A Highly Utilized CORE Website
Leader: Doug Manning (250-869-0575, 4dougmanning@gmail.com
Key Goal: At least 100 news stories/events posted during the year
Key Goal: 100,000 unique page views in 2015.

2016 Project N: CORE Bursaries
Leader: Don Bingham (250-717-8468, donbingham@shaw.ca)
Key Goal: $2,500 for five COBSS bursaries to local graduating rugby players who contribute to the game.
Key Goal: $1,000 Courtney Walls Memorial Bursary for a top local rugby player.

2016 Project O: CORE Support for Elite Athletes
Leader: Don Bingham (250-717-8468, donbingham@shaw.ca)
Key Goal: $1,500 to support in-school athletes who make rep-level teams.

2016 Project P: CORE Support for Players with Financial Need
Leader: Don Bingham (250-717-8468, donbingham@shaw.ca)
Key Goal: $2,000 to support in-school athletes who cannot afford the team fees to play rugby.

2016 Project Q: Rugby Centre of Excellence
Leader: Doug Manning (250-869-0575, 4dougmanning@gmail.com)
Key Goal: The City identifies a location for a Rugby Centre of Excellence (RCE) in Kelowna.
Key Goal: A RCE Steering Committee completes a RCE rendering and a viable business plan.
