9th Annual Ensign Cup Set for June 13th
Date: May 9, 1992
This article was taken from May 9, 1992 edition of The Rugby Sideline, a quarterly newsletter that was distributed by mail to the local rugby community by the KRFC Executive quarterly in 1992/93.
The 9th Annual Ensign Cup will be played at the Apple Bowl on June 13th. The game has proven to be a highlight each year, as present players and old alacadoos strap on the boots and play this exhibition game to raise funds for the People in Motion charity.
This year’s match will feature the Under-30 players versus the Over-30 players, with the kickoff set for 7:00 PM. The younger players will try to use their fitness and strength to bully the old boys off the ball. The elder players will be employing a new strategy of tricking the younger players into adopting some new interpretations of the rules.
As is tradition in the Ensign Cup, the team is selected from those who show up on the pitch. All players in Kelowna are welcome to play this fun game for charity. We especially welcome former players who can still muster up a glimmer of a rugby memory. Noisy spectators are also welcome.
It is also tradition at the Ensign Cup to go to the after-game social and tell lies about how great you were in the game. The bodies keep getting bigger but the stories remain the same. Come out on June 13th to support KRFC rugby and our Man in Motion fund-raiser!
