Balmy Beach RC Raises Funds for Judah Campbell
Date: January 4, 2014
The Balmy Beach Rugby Club raised nearly $7,000 for Judah Campbell at a Wine and Cheese Fundraiser in December. It was held at the historic Balmy Beach Club in Toronto on behalf of Judah who suffered a severe spinal cord injury on October 5th, 2013 while playing rugby for the Kelowna Crows Rugby Club in British Columbia. The money raised will be sent directly to Judah for his recovery fund.
The BCRU post reads, "The rugby community in Canada is a close-knit group so an injury like the one Judah sustained affects all of us. Balmy Beach Rugby Alumni Brian Spanton, Geoff Reynolds and Kerry Singh willfully took up the charge to organize the fundraising event upon learning of Judah’s accident because it was simply the right thing to do. In just under four weeks of planning and preparation, the fundraiser was held on December 8th, 2013 and was very well attended by close to 75 guests despite it being in the midst of the busy holiday season."
Lifford Wines supplied an ample variety of quality wines. The Balmy Beach Club Executive sponsored the delicious selection of fine cheeses presented by Fuel Catering and many others donated items for the silent and live auctions. The Club thanked them, Rugby Canada, Rugby Ontario, Balmy Beach Rugby Alumni and Club Members, and the rugby community as a whole for their overwhelming display of support.
The afternoon was highlighted by a Skype video call with Judah who made a strongly emotional and inspirational impact on everyone there. As he shared his story about his journey to recovery with the guests, we all saluted Judah “As One”, united by rugby and in true Beach spirit.
