Okanagan Places Most Ever on U14 BC Team

Date: August 21, 2017

In late July, 46 U14 players from across the province were invited to try out for the BC U14 squad.  Nine of those players were from the Thompson-Okanagan team that captured the Bronze at the Provincial Regional Championships.

The local players who were recognized as one of the top U14 players in BC are shown in the photo.  From the left, they are: Alan Woodhouse (Penticton), Declan Monaghan (Kelowna), Jacob Jobst (Kelowna), Tanner Milligan (Kelowna), Cruz Fisher (Kelowna), Brandon McCarty (Kelowna), Sully Curran (Kelowna), Cameron Halverson (Kelowna) and Sol Jacques (Penticton).

Six of these players have been part of the off-season rugby development program called the CORD Academy.  These players developed their passing, running, team defence, and other core rugby skills in over 20 hours of indoor and outdoor practicing from November to April.

Seven of these local players have been selected to the BC U14 side.  Congratulations to Alan, Declan, Jacob, Cruz, Brandon, Sully, and Sol.  In addition, the BC coaches have identified Tanner and Cameron as players 'on the cusp'.

Coach Leana Marton praised the quality of our nine representative players.  "I have to say, our boys are skilled, enthusiastic, and lovers of the game.  They represented the Okanagan so well both on the pitch and off."  The U14 teams do not compete in the national rugby championships, which just finished up this weekend.  The BC side hopes to play an Edmonton team later this year.

U14 and U16 players interested in participating in the CORD Academy in 2017/18 should contact Barry Ebl at
