2019 CORE Membership Drive Sets High Goals

2019 is an important year for the Central Okanagan Rugby Enthusiasts (CORE) non-profit rugby development society.  It seeks to achieve its five-year goal of 1,000 touch rugby players in the Central Okanagan.  It intends to increase rugby services to 13 - 18 year old players.  It will launch a new five-year plan to expand girl's/women's rugby in the Central Okanagan.  Most importantly, it will initiate its quest to establish a home for rugby in the Central Okanagan.

In order to further develop the local rugby infrastructure, it will need more membership.  The society launched its drive for individual and business members this week.  It hopes to secure 100 individual memberships ($75) and 25 business memberships ($500) by the end of this month.

"The populations of the Okanagan Valley and Greater Victoria are approximately the same," said Doug Manning, CORE President.  "Victoria has four Premier rugby clubs.  The Okanagan has none.  The difference is sport infrastructure.  CORE seeks to expand its membership to expand its capacity to develop more and better rugby players from our region."

An individual membership in CORE is $75.  $35 of that contribution goes to provide financial assistance to Central Okanagan youth rugby players.  The other $40 provides the member with a dinner at the year-end AGM.  Those interested in individual memberships can register on the CORE website

A $500 business membership provides support to the Central Okanagan Rugby Development (CORD) Academy or the Mini-Rugby program.  In both cases, it allows us to run the programs at a cost that is affordable to all families.  The 2019 drive targets 20 business members for the CORD Academy and five for the spring mini-rugby program.  Those interested in being a CORE business member in 2019 can register online here.

"Our sport is thriving for Central Okanagan children under 13," said Manning.  "As we expand services for 13 - 18 year old boys and girls, we require more financial and volunteer support.  This membership drive launches us towards the achievement of that expanded sport capacity."
