The number of players just keeps growing in touch rugby! The CORE 2019 Youth Rugby season featured fun for 375 athletes, with over 150 Mini Rugby players (aged 4 to 7), playing developmental rugby-themed games and another 225 Touch Sevens players (aged 8 to 12) competing in league play.
In the older (aged 10 to 12) Touch Sevens playoffs, eight teams operated independently on the field, with their coaches supporting them from the sidelines. In the Cup semi-finals, both lower seeded teams upset their higher ranking opponents, setting up a final that featured two teams that kept getting better thoughout the season. In the end, the Falcons proved to be too much for the Harlequins winning by two tries and lifting the Cup. The Bowl final featured a Wasps team that showed their pedigree, defeating a hard working Saracens squad.
The season also featured ten youth referees, who have graduated out of youth rugby and have returned as a solid group of match officials. Next year's group already has three eager additions to the officiating team, who will match-up in a mentor and head referee support system.
The growth of the Youth Rugby program is not possible without the support of our corporate and support sponsors, as well as the registered coaching and support staff, which reached 85 adults strong this year.
